The group and committee will legally protect the rights of consumers, the negative side effects of goods and services, supporting with guarantees for safe commodities, as well as the mediating problems between businessmen and consumers concerned with goods and services.
“These kinds of group should have been formed a long time ago. Other places have already implemented consumer rights. We should have done this earlier as our town is close to the border with China. Fruit and vegetables are mainly imported through trading on the boarder. Therefore, goods should be checked strictly at border controlled gates,” said U Sein Kyaw, a local from Lashio.
According to locals of Lashio, fast food and readymade food manufactured in China is being sold widely at schools, stores and most places.
